Vitamin D3 was were typically given as 50,000 to 100,000 IU per day for 5 days, for a total dose of 250,000 to 500,000 IU. Vitamin D3 has been shown to shorten hospital stays and lessen mortality in those patients who were deficient in vitamin D.
